My friends would think I was a nut...

A propos of nothing:

  • Of late I have been very into vintage Genesis; I think The Carpet Crawlers and I Know What I Like (In Your Wardrobe) are the latest additions to my favourite songs list (this changes a lot). A few weeks ago I bought The Warm Up Tour Summer 2007 (Eden Project 20 June) double CD from Peter Gabriel. It’s great to hear tracks like Mother Of Violence and No Self Control recorded live this very summer
  • On Wednesday night I was at BBC Centre for the filming of 8 Out Of 10 Cats, Big Brother Special. Absolutely hilarious. How they condensed that three hours of filming into one half hour show Thursday night I’ll never know. So funny (and the BB contestants… wow, you could get depressed about how stupid some people are)
  • On Friday night I saw the master himself, Prince in concert at The O2 (what was the Millennium Dome). Utterly amazing. I still can’t believe he’s fifty next year. The gig report on his site is here
  • Pup fares well! I’ve almost missed my train to work every day this week: puppies are a big time-sink
  • People are still asking me what I’m going to do, now that I’m leaving my current employer (free man come October 5th) I’ll tell you: I’m going to enjoy life and embark on a whole new journey (time to listen to Solsbury Hill eh). How cool is that?

Done for now. The only thing I need to add is that if you haven’t already, you need to check out the idea exchange beta! The guys have done a great job on this.

  1. Will you be turning water into wine?

I had Carpet Crawlers on repeat for about 2 hours recently. Really a great tune.Nathan T. Freeman#
  2. Will you be turning water into wine?

That would certainly be a handy trick for Saturday nights.Ben Poole#
  3. I have loved Genesis for years and had most of their albums on LP. However since selling that collection off, and replacing titles with CDs, I have yet to replace "The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway", possibly my favourite Genesis album. The twenty two minute sequence on Foxtrot is pretty good too. I am with you on Solsbury Hill. :) Good luck with the life change.Bruce Langner#
  4. If you fancy some more early genesis you could consider going to see "The Musical Box" who are the arguably the best tribute band in the world. They are very popular and do big tours, for instance I saw em to a lamb lies down on broadway at the bristol colston hall.

    See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Musical_Box_(band)

I did laugh a bit, not at them just at 70s prog in general …

    "A Flower!"

  5. Thanks for the rec. Spug. I’ve seen some footage of them on Youtube—there’s even a sequence where they play The Musical Box live & Phil Collins joins them on drums, doing the (in)famous backing vox. And yes, the lead singer was in full flower costume. LOL Ben Poole#
  6. I used to be into early Genesis more than can be explained in words. It's nice to go back and listen now and then. I can still play the Firth of Fifth intro on the piano.Dan Sickles#
